Kwit’kuhloxs:(gwit-guu-hlohxs)

The month of January

The large ring around the sun or moon.

Lasa Hu’mal:(lah-sah who-mull)

The month of February

When the cottonwood trees crack loudly because of the extreme cold. ( sounds like a gunshot.

The grouse are flapping their wings because spring is coming.

‘Wii Hloxs:(wee-hlohxs)

 The month of March

The bears sit around in their den before coming out in spring.  They are ready to welcome the spring and a change to warmer weather.

Lasa ya’a:  (lah-sah yuh-ah)

The month of April

Month of return of spring salmon.

Lasa ‘Yanja: (lah-sah yun-dzah)

The month of May

Leaves begin to show the regrowth of plants.

Lasa Maaa’y: (lah-sah my-ee)

The month of June

The first berries of the season are ready.

Lasa ‘Wii Hon: (lah-sah wee hon)

The month of July

Fish are plentiful to provide for the winter supply.

Lasa Lik’I’nsxw: (lah-sah Li-gi-in-sxw)

The month of August

When the grizzly bears are eating fish to prepare for hibernation.

Lasa Gangwiikw: (lah-sah gan- gwee- kxw)

The month of September

The groundhog are getting fat and the Gitxsan hunt for them.

Lasa Sinlaaxw or:  (Lah-sah lin-laa-xw)

The month of October

Trout are very hungry and taking bait which makes fishing easier.

Xsgoogathl Aa’wat:  (sgoh-gat-hl aa-wut)

The month of October

The first month that has no name.

Lasa Gwineekxw or:  (lah-sah gwi-nayk-xw)

The month of November

The month of colder weather.

Ts’uugilbilhl Aa’wat: (ts-uu-gil-bil-hl aa-wut)

The second month that has no name.

Lasa ‘Wii Gwineekxw or:  (lah-sah gwi-nayk-xw)

The month of December

Month of Freezing, Cold weather.

Lasa Gungw’ats: (lah-sah gun-kwuts)

Month of December

Cannot go too far to use the outhouse.
